The starting point of Isabel Durcrot's paintings are antique textiles which the artist has collected over decades on her travels through Turkey, India, China, Tibet and Afghanistan. Fascinated by the structure of the woven fabric, especially the contrasting parts of warp and weft threads, which give the textil a special resistance, Ducrot looks into and reveals the many layers of the mystical, the folkloric and decorative. Isabella Ducrot (b. 1931, Naples, IT) has had solo and group exhibitions at: Gisela Capitain, Cologne (2021 and 2019); Galerie Mezzanin, Geneva (2020); Capitain Petzel, Berlin (2019); Spazio Parlato, Palermo (2018); Galleria Nazionale d'Arte Moderna e Contemporanea, Rome (2016). She also took part at the Venice Biennale in 1993 and 2011. She lives and works in Rome.
