These prints belong to a series of computer-generated images that Johannesson developed with his wife Charlotte at their ‘Digital Theatre’ studio in the early 1980s. Made on Apple II computers, the portraits represent a cast of ‘digital actors’, figures from popular culture including musicians David Bowie and Bob Dylan. Sture Johannesson (b. 1935, Malmö) has held solo exhibitions of his work at Index and at Tensta Konsthall, Stockholm ( 2013 ); MIT, Cambridge (2012); Lunds Konsthall (2004, 1969) and the Moderna Museet, Stockholm (1968). His work was featured in the exhibition ‘The Policeman’s Beard is Half Constructed: Art in the Age of Artificial Intelligence’ at Bonner Kunstverein in 2017. Johannesson lives and works in Skanör.
