Matt Connors

Hocket (version), 2017

Watercolour and screen print on paper
5 unique works

Matt Connors’ abstract paintings often evolve through a process that he has described as ‘cross pollination’ or ‘contamination’, with one work transferring paint or other elements to another. The screen print that forms the basis for this series of works on paper repeats a linear composition from ‘Hocket’, the title painting of Connors’ current exhibition in New York. In music, hocket refers to the division of a melody between two parts, notes in one part coinciding with rests in the other. Matt Connors (b. 1973, Chicago) has held solo exhibitions at MoMA PS1, New York (2012); Kunsthalle Düsseldorf and Dallas Museum of Art (2011). His work has been included in exhibitions at Kunstmuseum Bonn (2015); Museum of Modern Art, New York; Contemporary Arts Museum, Houston (2014) and Walker Art Center, Minneapolis (2013). Connors’ work is held in several major public collections including the Dallas Museum of Art; Hammer Museum, Los Angeles; Museum of Modern Art, New York and Walker Arts Center, Minneapolis. He lives and works in New York.
