Jana Schröder
Spontacts K5
2016 copying pencil and oil on canvas 150 x 120 cm unique signed Schröder’s monochromatic, abstract paintings describe a gestural process that might be compared to handwriting, scribbling or surrealist automatic drawing. Beyond this somewhat performative process of mark-making, external factors such as time and exposure to light become authors within her work as the marks made with the indelible ‘copying pencil’ fade when exposed to light. Jana Schröder (b. 1983, Brilon) has held exhibitions at Natalia Hug, Cologne; T293, Rome (both 2016) and Nino Mier, Los Angeles (2015). Her first institutional solo exhibition will take place at the Reutlinger Kunstverein in 2017. She lives and works in Düsseldorf.
