Alluding to the naive adaptation of photographic and filmic surfaces, as they were typical for the photorealistic style of the 1960s and 1970s, Mielke's painting often transforms technical mistakes of the camera to formative pictorial elements. Instead of a detailed imitation, however, he consciously focuses on the fragility and the personal charm that emerge from the painterly and almost careless transfer of slight camera errors such as colour casts and and overexposure. Simon Mielke's (b. 1990) work has been shown at Löwengasse, Cologne; Lucas Hirsch, Düsseldorf (both 2021); Kunstverein Harburger Bahnhof, Hamburg (2020) and Werthalle, Cologne (2019). He lives and works in Essen.
