Unique

The paintings and drawings of Mark Barker articulate precise yet unstable registers of embodiment. Tenderness and softness of tissue, combined with gestural moments of clarity – a curled finger, a gaze oscillating between curiosity and scorn. The working process is slow, a careful process of channeling the body, its limitations, and permeable boundaries, whilst also enabling another more symbolic or metaphysical sense of presence. Mark Barker's (b. 1983, Hertfordshire, UK) work has been presented in the following solo and group exhibitions: Zarinbal Khoshbakht, Cologne (2021); Salon 8, Hamburg (2019); Peles Empire, Berlin (2016) and Gesellschaft für Aktuelle Kunst, Bremen (2014). He lives and works in Berlin.
