Known for her large-scale, dynamic paintings of female subjects, Ella Kruglyanskaya works primarily from her own drawings. In an interview for her exhibition at Bonner Kunstverein this year she explained,’There’s something in the energy of the drawing that is appealing to me. A drawing is like a truly innocent thing. It’s just your thoughts and your marks and material... Drawing can be completely uncensored... It’s pure idea. I try to transfer this energy to painting.‘ Ella Kruglyanskaya (b. 1978, Riga) has held exhibitions at Tate Liverpool; Tramway, Glasgow (both 2016); The Power Station, Dallas; Studio Voltaire, London (2014) and White Columns, New York (2011). She lives and works in Los Angeles.
