In Jochen Lempert's photographic work, scientific research merges with individual perception. Since the early 1990s, the former biology student at the University of Bonn has dedicated himself to the animal and plant world in all its manifestations, whereby his morphological studies deliberately avoid an objective order. Instead, the fluctuating balance between sharpness and blurring lends the analogue black-and-white photographs a painterly, enigmatic quality. Jochen Lempert's (born 1958, Moers) work has been shown at venues including: De Pont Museum, Tilburg (2020); Mudam, Luxembourg; Palais de Tokyo, Paris (2019); Museum für Gegenwartskunst Siegen (2018); Sprengel Museum, Hanover (2017); Kunstverein München (2016); Hamburger Kunsthalle (2013); Museum Ludwig, Cologne (2010). Lempert had his first institutional solo exhibition at the Bonner Kunstverein in 1997. He lives and works in Hamburg.
