Anna-Sophie Berger's artistic practice manifests itself in delicate objects as well as in expansive installations. As an attentive observer of our contemporary language of forms, Berger explores the aesthetic and functional qualities of everyday objects and refers to their social contexts and implicit instructions for action. For her Jahresgaben series, Berger transforms selected yellow pages of an American telephone book. Increasingly losing its relevance as a medium, it nevertheless depicts a social reality whose absurd concatenation of individuals, products and services are partly accentuated and partly rendered impenetrable by various pictorial interventions. Anna-Sophie Berger (b. 1989, Vienna) has held solo exhibitions at Cell Project Space, London (2019); MUMOK; Wien; Kunsthaus Bregenz (beide 2016), Ludlow 38, New York (2015). Her work has been presented at Kunsthalle Wien (2019, 2017); S.M.A.K., Gent (2018); Kunstverein München; Kestnergesellschaft, Hannover (both 2017)at the 9th Berlin Biennale (2016). Sie lebt und arbeitet in New York und Wien. She lives and works in New York and Vienna.
