A talk by Friedrich Meschede on David Medalla, followed by a discussion with Fatima Hellberg
In 1998, Friedrich Meschede curated the first exhibition of David Medalla in Germany, Art Lifts Berlin. The presentation followed a year in the city as a DAAD grant recipient, a time during which Medalla organised his own projects as well as twelve shows with other artists in his studio. The intense period of making and collaborative work continued with the foundation of Another Vacant Space with Adam Nankervis. This talk focuses on the friendship and work between Meschede and Medalla, with an emphasis on the artist’s approach to performance and community building.
Friedrich Meschede (b. 1955) was Artistic Director of Westfälischer Kunstverein, Münster (1989-1992), Director of the Visual Arts Section at DAAD (1992-2007), Head of Exhibitions at Museu d’Arte Contemporani de Barcelona (MACBA) (2008-2010) and Artistic Director of Kunsthalle Bielefeld (2011-2019).
The talk will be held in German language and followed by a discussion between Meschede and Fatima Hellberg.
