The Artothek of the Bonner Kunstverein was founded in 1987, when the institution relocated to the former flower market hall on August-Macke-Platz, redesigned by Haus-Rucker-Co. Today, with over 2,000 prints, photographs, drawing and paintings, it is one of the most extensive art lending libraries in Germany. The collection, which focuses on art from the period from 1960 to the present, is constantly being expanded with works by regional, national and international artists. Artists with works in the Artothek include Marina Abramović, Thomas Bayrle, Bernd and Hilla Becher, Alighiero e Boetti, KP Brehmer, Daniel Buren, Miriam Cahn, Christo, Walter Dahn, Hanne Darboven, Mark Dion, Marlene Dumas, Isa Genzken, Nan Goldin, Rebecca Horn, Martin Kippenberger, Jürgen Klauke, Joseph Kosuth, Christa Näher, Marcel Odenbach, Anna Oppermann, Nam June Paik, Sigmar Polke, Robert Rauschenberg, Gerhard Richter, Thomas Ruff, Dieter Roth, Ulrike Rosenbach, Thomas Schütte, Kiki Smith, Nancy Spero, Rosemarie Trockel, Luc Tuymans and Cy Twombly.
