Cecilia Edefalk’s paintings, spanning from the mid 1980s until the present recurrently have a sacral atmosphere, a sensibility for the unseen, for the qualities of building up a charge, presence and light. In her series White Within, a work drawing inspiration from an early Renaissance angel in an Annunciation scene, Edefalk developed a representation of a contemporary angel – an abstracted, and beautiful silhouette in white and deep yellow. She is furthermore interested in processes of repetition, a formal investigation, repeating, returning to and copying her own work in ongoing series. These are qualities of formal and material investigations and a dialogue with immanence and the unknowable that play into her Jahresgaben. Cecilia Edefalk (b. 1954, Norrköping, SE) has held solo exhibition at Kunstmuseum Bremerhaven (2016); Dia Art Foundation, New York (2010); Lunds konsthall (2008); Kunsthalle Kiel (2006). The artist lives in Stockholm.
