Logan’s practice encompasses painting, performance and music. The clenched fist in these flag-like works is a salute first recognised in ancient Assyria and remains a symbol of resistance and solidarity in the face of violence. Melissa E. Logan (b. 1970, New York) is a member of the music and fine art ensemble Chicks on Speed who have held exhibitions at the Institute of Contemporary Art Singapore; the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia (both 2014); Artspace, Sydney (2013); Dundee Contemporary Arts (2010); Thyssen Bornemisza Contemporary 21, Vienna (2009) and the National Museum of Modern Art, Kyoto (2008). She has also performed at the Museum of Modern Art, New York (2008). Logan is represented by Galerie Gisela Clement, Bonn and lives in Cologne.
