In Andreas Breunig's latest series, an encounter occurs between two images whose strokes and paint application appear identical at first glance. In reality, each pair consists of an original painting and its digital copy, also mounted on canvas. The media difference in Breunig's juxtaposition not only raises questions about materiality, but also refers to the tradition of the artist's hand. Breunig's duplicate plays with the idea of being able to free oneself from the human desire for individuality. Andreas Breunig (b. 1983, Eberbach) has held a solo exhibition at Kunstverein Reutlingen (2018). His work has also been exhibited at Kunstmuseum Bonn (2019); Kunstverein Heppenheim, (2018); Haus der Kunst St. Josef, Solothurn (2014); Rautenstrauch-Joest-Museum, Köln (2012). He lives and works in Düsseldorf.
