In her photographs, Alex Grein breaks with familiar patterns of perception and unsettles the relationship between reality and virtual reality. In her ongoing series "Pictures on a Screen", Grein displays pre-selected photographs on her smartphone screen and combines them with physical miniatures of everyday objects. By photographing the ensemble, she transfers the two components onto a common level, deliberately allowing ‚erroneous’ glitches to appear that allude to the construction of her images. Alex Grein (b. 1983, Köln) has held a solo exhibition at Schloss Pleß, Pszczyn (2018). Her work has also been shown at Städtische Galerie Lüdenscheid (2017); Spinnerei Leipzig (2017); KIT, Düsseldorf (2015); Kunstverein Duisburg (2014) and Julia Stoschek Collection, Düsseldorf (2013). She lives and works in Düsseldorf.
