In the decades that Deschenes has been working, the artist has conceived of a new medium entirely that is both fully photography and fully sculpture. Deschenes work often looks into the history of photographic practices, dating back to its inception and the machines which were being invented to create pictures. Her photograms, a chemical process most often done during moonlight and night time hours, are inspections into the slippery movements of light. This work, Resolution (Focal Chart), is a minimal rendering that indicates towards the mathematics necessary for determining resolution and focus of pictures. Liz Deschenes lives and works in New York. She has shown internationally with shows at the San Francisco Museum of Art (2021); Walker Art Center, Minneapolis (2014); the Institute of Contempory Art, Boston (2016); and Secession, Vienna (2012). She has had solo shows at Campoli Presti, London (2019) and Miguel Abreu Gallery, New York (2018).
