Josephine Pryde’s work explores established aesthetic conventions in photography, covering a broad range of genres from the creation of commercial stock imagery to medical applications. These photograms belong to an on-going series of camera-less works that reflect her interest in language and the history - as well as the future - of darkroom experimentation, print and imaging techniques. Josephine Pryde (b.1967, Alnwick) has held solo exhibitions at CCA Wattis, San Francisco, ICA, Philadelphia (2015); Arnolfini, Bristol (2014); Kunstverein für die Rheinlande und Westfalen, Düsseldorf; Kunsthalle Bern (2012); Chisenhale Gallery (2011); Secession, Vienna (2004) and Kunstverein Braunschweig (2001). Her work is held in several major public collections including the Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam; The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles and the Museum of Modern Art, New York. Pryde’s work was part of Berlin Biennale in 2016 and she was shortlisted for the Turner Prize in the same year. She lives and works in London and Berlin.
