Tompkins paints on a diverse variety of objects and materials. Her work has been described as an ‘intimate, diaristic… investigation into the language of colour and the tradition of the ready-made’. These works on paper follow her exhibition ‘Stick crystals to paintings’ at Bonner Kunstverein which made reference to the counterculture of the 1960s and its influence on the tech industry today. Hayley Tompkins (b. 1971, Leighton Buzzard) has held exhibitions at Bonner Kunstverein (2018); The Common Guild, Glasgow (2014); Aspen Art Museum, Colorado (2013); Studio Voltaire, London (2011); Inverleith House, Edinburgh (2009); and The Drawing Room, London (2008). She represented Scotland at the 55th Venice Biennale in 2013. Her work is held in several public collections including the Tate Gallery, London and the Museum of Modern Art, New York.
