Fredrik Værslev’s Jahresgaben combine references to three separate series of works that variously reflect his practice of treating paintings as an object. Architecturally, they refer to a larger (2.3m x 2m) work made for his exhibition at Bergen Kunsthall in 2016 where the canvas was inset within the gallery wall, whilst their compositional elements refer to a group of highly polished wood-based works and a series of sail-shaped ‘sky’ paintings that will form part of his forthcoming exhibition in Bonn. Fredrik Værslev (b.1979, Drøbak) has held solo exhibitions at Kunst Halle Sankt Gallen (2017); Kunsthal Aarhus; Le Consortium, Dijon; Bergen Kunsthall (2016); Museo Marino Marini, Firenze; CAC Passerelle, Brest(2015); The Power Station, Dallas (2014). His work is held in several major collections including the Astrup Fearnley Museum, Oslo; Centre Pompidou, Paris; Moderna Museet, Stockholm and Nasjonalmuseet, Oslo. Værslev will hold a solo exhibition at Bonner Kunstverein 2018. He lives and works in Drammen and Vestfossen, Norway.
