Unique work

The thematic density in Ulla von Brandenburg’s work, which feeds on elements of folklore, theatre and circus, corresponds with an extraordinarily high media diversity. In her films, installations, drawings and silhouettes, von Brandenburg uses methods of theatre to deal with social and historical questions. Aspects of the staged and theatrical or the regularity of the play become metaphors of coexistence in which the separation between audience and actors, reality and illusion are constantly questioned and sporadically broken through. Ulla von Brandenburg (b. 1974, Karlsruhe) has held solo exhibitions at Kunstmuseum Bonn (2018); Whitechapel Gallery, London (2018); Mathildenhöhe Darmstadt (2018); Centre Pompidou, Paris; Musée des Beaux Arts de Rennes (both 2017); Pérez Art Museum, Miami (2016) and Contemporary Art Centre, Riga (2015). She lives in Paris.
