Veit Laurent Kurz's sculptural installations, paintings and drawings explain the imaginary, artificial biosphere that the artist has created over the last few years. The link between metamorphosis, contamination, germ infestation and destruction recurs in his practice as a condition and form of his work. This is also palpable in his painting 'Life in Pompeii', a scene of ambiguous temporality in which the paint has taken on an organic, almost modelling quality - an illustration that, like many of Kurz's depictions, sits at the nexus of a scenario that is both the end and the beginning of time. Veit Laurent Kurz' (born 1985, Erbach) works have been shown in the following institutions, among others: Haus Mödrath, Kerpen (2020); Kunstverein Nürnberg (2019); Ludlow, New York; Kestnergesellschaft Hannover (2017); Dortmunder Kunstverein (2016) and Whitney Museum of Art, New York (2015). He lives and works in Berlin and New York.
