The form of ecology that Lucie Stahl explores in her work is characterised by a blurring of boundaries. Stahl is fascinated by rubble and debris, by materiality, by the material culture of (over)production, but also by the cycles of extraction - the pumping, the drilling, the mining of raw materials from the earth. The extraction, the overexploitation and the feverish bringing forth of material are examined in Stahl's work with an acutely contemporary understanding of ecological instability and violence, linked to the imperative of a highly precise and often sensually beautiful staging of a materiality at the interface between the artificial and the organic. Lucie Stahl (b. 1977, Berlin) has had solo and group exhibitions at the following institutions: Fri Art - Centre d'art de Fribourg, Fribourg (2018); Kunsthalle Basel (2017); Sculpture Center, New York (2014); Halle für Kunst, Lüneburg (2016, 2014) and Kölnischer Kunstverein (2011). Her work was also shown at the 9th Berlin Biennale (2016). She lives and works in Berlin.
