In the fleeting moments of news and information, and the numerous stories they all contain, Kyle Thurman focuses in on the figures and persons being detailed as source imagery for his paintings and drawings. These bodies, unknown to the artist but displayed with only simple context in the news, are so often portrayed as assumably guilty of something in the news cycle, that Thurman instead opts to pay an homage to them that assumes their innocence and gives them pride of place, letting the viewer get a glimpse of the person they may otherwise just pass in reading. Kyle Thurman lives and works in Brooklyn, New York and received his MFA in painting from the Milton Avery Graduate School of Arts at Bard College in 2016.
