Harkeerat Mangat’s performances and film projects are based on a specific collaborative approach that enables the participating actors to co-create the dialogues and actions. In 'Untitled Drawing', Mangat's interest in technical as well as socio-cultural structures is evident. In this illustrated scene, he interweaves different levels of his reflections: through a change of perspective, the viewer looks from a theatre stage into the space of the audience. There, in turn, we do not see a theater hall, but a public square - accessible to everyone. Comparable to the way he edits his films, the artist refrains from predetermined prioritisation, pulling each line equally thick, leaving it to the viewer to choose what to focus on. Harkeerat Mangat (b. 1990, Vancouver, CA) will receive a solo presentation at Bonner Kunstverein in 2022 as part of the Peter Mertes Stipendium. His works have been shown at KIT - Kunst im Tunnel, Düsseldorf; Stiftung Museum Insel Hombroich, Neuss; K21 Kunstsammlung NRW, Düsseldorf (all 2021) and Simultanhalle, Cologne (2019). He lives and works in Düsseldorf.
